The primary theme this month is serving others happily and willingly. Our leaders encouraged us to remember this scripture which they read to us: Mosiah 2:17 which states, When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
I beleive that this is a very good scripture to remember, and I know that it is the truth. For when we are serving our friends, neighbors, and family that we are actually serving our Father in heaven. I know that service is very important, and that we all need service and all need to give service. I beleive that the scout slogan is very important: Do a good turn daily, and that if everyone in the world really were to do a good turn daily that this earth would be a much better place. Never forget that each and every one of us can make a difference, even by the smallest of things like a wave or a smile. I beleive The Book of Mormon to be the word of God and that we are all God's children. I am thankful to be a Saturday's warrior. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
I agree. I think people underestimate the difference their service makes. I think it makes people happy to serve. That was evident to me tonight as I was watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition, where the family in Pocatello got their home rebuilt. I was there for some of it, and the show tonight reminded me how excited and happy everyone was to be involved in that huge service project.
ReplyDeleteThis really is one of those scriptures that just so automatically feels right and true. I'll bet most people in the world have experienced the joy of service, and likewise the peace and happiness that the Spirit brings to them when they do it. No wonder Scouting's founders just naturally made Do a Good Turn Daily part of their program. Great insight, Jake.
